A Married Couple Becomes Troubled About Their Abusive And Excessive Drinking And Asks Themselves If They Exhibit Any Signs Of Alcoholism
Angie and Lenny have been married for seven years. They wanted to have some excitement and fun before they made up their minds to have a family and so they deliberately developed an incredibly active social life.
The main difficulty, it needs to be pointed out, is that practically everything they do to have fun somehow includes drinking. For example, all of the parties with friends, happy hours, sporting events, family get-togethers, and dinner engagements they frequent are associated with drinking.
If they were responsible or moderate drinkers this wouldn't be such a big issue. Due to the fact they drink quite abusively, nonetheless, they are starting to perceive some clear-cut alcohol-related problems in their lives.
For instance, Lenny recently was apprehended by the police for a second DUI and has been leaving early from work because of alcohol-related health issues. In addition, Lenny's last two or three performance reviews at work have been less than creditable and he has started to forget what he says or does while he drinks. Finally, Lenny has been experiencing sleep-related problems and his family has begun to display some uneasiness about his drinking difficulties.
Angie, on the other hand, has been feeling depressed with things in her life and to handle these feelings, she has been drinking more frequently than any time in the past year. Not only this, but Angie has been getting a lot of painful headaches and having excruciating hangovers from drinking. Lastly, Angie has been feeling considerably less energetic in the morning, she has been getting to work late at least every other day, and she has been receiving some unsupportive criticism from her coworkers, relatives, family members, and friends about her excessive and unhealthy drinking.
One Saturday evening while watching TV, Angie and Lenny inadvertently found an exciting documentary about alcohol facts and alcoholism facts in general and about alcoholism signs in particular. This television program was a real realization to Lenny and Angie because more than a few of the alcohol facts that were emphasized looked as if they were undeniably correlated with several of the drinking difficulties Lenny and Angie had been suffering through.
With thoughts of the TV special still running through her mind, Angie asked Lenny if some of the alcoholism signs they have been manifesting could mean that they are dependent on alcohol or conceivably becoming dependent on alcohol. Lenny didn't know the answer to Angie's question and so he recommended that they make an appointment with one of the healthcare practitioners at the local alcohol rehab center to find out more about the seriousness of their drinking problems.
Paradoxically, although their drinking situation hadn't yet changed, it was plain to see that Lenny and Angie were at least tackling their drinking issues, they were ready to find out more about their drinking behavior, and they were interested in finding out how they could notably cut down the severity or get rid of the drinking-related problems that had started to escalate.
When Angie and Lenny went to bed that night, they decided that the next day, Lenny would call and schedule an appointment for both of them at the drug and alcohol abuse rehabilitation facility located in the next town. After they made a promise to one another that they would do whatever it takes to prevail over the alcohol-related issues that had emerged in their lives, they actually had the best night's sleep they could recall in the last month.
